Do it Yourself Cell Phone Cases

Thursday, 26 September 2013

The Stampin' Up! Concept Artists have come up with a great idea - you can create your own cell phone case!  So instead of paying the high prices for the cell phone cases, create one exactly as you want it.
You can find some inexpensive cases at London Drugs , Walmart or Target for less than $10.00. Check out the 3 different cases.
For the Inspire/Create/Share case, the digital stamp from MDS’s Hooray For Today Stamp Brush Set was updated and printed it on Whisper White Cardstock; for the black and white case, Modern Medley Designer Series Paper was used; and the last case was embellished by combining a favourite picture and MDS’s “Family is everything” digital stamp from the Hooray for Today Stamp Brush Set. It was then printed on Whisper White Cardstock.

Trace around the case with a pencil. (Since the case is see-through, you should be able to see to center it and trace.) If you can’t find a see-through case, just measure your case and draw the lines on the paper with a ruler. Then lay the case down and trace around the corners to get the exact measurement of the corners and the camera lens hole.
After you cut your paper to the exact size of your case, use a paint brush to completely cover the top of the case with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Adhere the paper to the case and let it dry; then, using a paint brush, completely cover the case with Crystal Effects to make it water-resistant and more durable. Let it dry.

You now have your very own custom case!

Swallowtail Surprise!

Sunday, 15 September 2013

At Stampin' Up! Convention in July, Shelli Gardiner, Stampin' Up! Co-founder, demonstrated a beautiful card using the Swallowtail stamp (Item 129216) and I knew that I was going to case it.  It is stunning - as Shelli's cards always are!  She is the master of vintage and shabby chic! It's my sister's birthday coming up, so what a perfect opportunity to try it.  I got a little carried away, but I like how it turned out.

First of all Shelli's card - WOW!

The surprise is when you open it - the butterfly almost comes to life!
Now my case of it.  Definitely a little busier and I changed up the stamps and colours.  I'm pleased with how it turned out. I hope my sister likes it!
Colours are Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana and Crisp Cataloupe
Stamp set used:  Swallowtail, Everything Eleanor, Background Builders, Gorgeous Grunge, Potpurri Papillion and for the sentiments, Bring on the Cake and Field Flowers
Happy Stamping!

Oh my Goodness, I'm loving it!

Thursday, 12 September 2013

Earlier this month I blogged about a new product from Stampin' Up! - the Envelope Punch Board.  I have to admit that when I saw this product at Convention in July, I wasn't so sure.  Over the past few weeks I've seen some really cute file folder cards and other projects made with it so I knew I had to have it.  I tried it out today.

First of all, if my husband is reading this, you should stop now!

I made the following card using the Circle Thinlits Die and extended the end.  The card ended up about 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".  I always seem to use the same stamp set for him - we're sailors, so it seems perfect.  This year, I added the World Map stamp set as well.  The card is made with Core'dinations paper in Cajun Craze which you can distress really easily to make it look vintage.  I stamped the map image and then sponged over it using a torn piece of paper and distressed the edges.  A few more embellishments with some edges cut from the Burlap ribbon and an anchor with a "bowline" knot attached (hard to see in the picture).  I'm hoping my husband will appreciate the fact that I can actually tie one of these very useful knots.

On the inside of the card I added a gift card holder from the Core'dinations paper.  For this I made a file folder tab using the new Envelope Punch board.  So easy to do.  Just decide where you want your tab to begin, punch it, then move over about 2 inches and punch again.  You can then use your paper trimmer to cut the extra pieces off.

Now for a coordinating envelope.  Since my card ended up an odd size, it was perfect - with the Envelope Punch Board I can make it any size I want to.  All of the measurements are included.  In seconds I have an envelope that fits and coordinates.  What a great way to use up some of the retired Designer Series Paper that I have.

I'm sure my husband will be thrilled with his card, don't you?
I'll post some other samples using it to make the file folder cards.  The Envelope Punch Board sells for $24.95 (Item 133774).  I know you're going to want one! Email me or shop on my Online Store.

Also, don't forget to check out the Clearance Rack on my Online Store!  Stampin' Up! has just refreshed it with some great deals.

It's been a "Banner" Day

Sunday, 8 September 2013

I've had fun in my craft room today playing with the Simply Banner Kit from Stampin' Up! It was so easy to create some beautiful banners.

First of all I re-created the "Joy" banner from page 13 of the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalogue.  We'll be making this banner in my class on November 16th.  For this banner I added the Christmas Banner Simply Created Accessory Kit to add some bling.  So easy.  The Banner kit comes with all of the stencils you need including alphabet letters.  For this banner I used the Stampin' Spritzer and made my own colours with the Re-inkers and Rubbing Alcohol (about 5-10 drops of colour and fill the rest of the spritzer with alcohol).  It was a bit messy (I'm sure the colour will come out of my hands in a day or two), so I suggest you use some rubber gloves.

Now, on to some of the other projects I made - in less than 3 hours I had 3 banners made!  How easy is that.  The next one is a simple one - no embellishments except some Smoky Slate Chevron ribbon.  I used Pool Party coloured spritzer for this one. This one is for a friend of mine who has just moved back to Vancouver after being away and is renting a place.  I thought this might cheer up her place a bit.

For my last banner, I decided that my hands were coloured enough so I used ink pads and sponge daubers to apply the colour with the stencils.  The colour is a little darker when you do it this way, but I think it might be a little easier.  This banner will go in my craft room which I've gradually been organizing with new shelves and ways to store my supplies.
The colours I used are all In Colours - all of the new ones from this year as well ans Summer Starfruit. The embellishments on this one are using the Flower Shop stamp set and coordinating punch and the Potpourri Papillion stamp set and coordinating Elegant Butterfly Punch and Bitty Butterfly Punch, a few rhinestones and some Smoky Slate Chevron Ribbon.  I stamped using the same colours as the pennants and applied using a dimensional. Here's an upclose look at a couple of the embellishments.

Butterfly Share

Monday, 2 September 2013

Hi everyone,

Happy Labour Day!

I'm sitting on our boat in a light rain shower after a great weekend, but feeling sad that it is the end our our boating season.  While we'll get some good weather in September, we don't usually get out too much.  We've had an amazing year on the west coast for boating.  The rain shower makes me think of spending the afternoon in my craft room once we get home :)

I wanted to share a card I made a while back using the Itty Bitty Butterfly Punch and the Elegant Butterfly Punch.  There is a promotion on right now - 15% off the Papillion Potpurri Stamp Set and the Itty Bitty Butterfly Punch.  For this card I didn't use the stampset for the butterflies - just punched them out from Designer Series Paper.  This card was so easy!
You can place your order on my Online Store (use hostess code U6TW4492).  If you place your order using the Hostess Code, I will enter your name in a draw to win the coordinating Elegant Butterfly Punch.

Happy Stamping!
